Now that we have Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening under our belts, we are working this little charmer --
The Woodpecker
The woodpecker pecked out a little round hole
And made him a house in the telephone pole.
One day when I watched he poked out his head,
And he had on a hood and a collar of red.
When the streams of rain pour out of the sky,
And the sparkles of lightning go flashing by,
And the big, big wheels of thunder roll,
He can snuggle back in the telephone pole.

Stopping by from Frogwater Farm; really liked your comment there.
ReplyDeleteI have a 3 yo and 15 month-old, am considering homeschooling (3 yo is in preschool now).
I've been wanting to find good small-children's poems--this is great, thanks!
Oh, I'm so glad! I've found my own appreciation for poetry has grown as I've explored nursery rhymes and children's poetry. :)
ReplyDeleteI stopped by your blog and the horse chariot racing in the snow looks wild. WILD. Fun.
